Ethiopian rights commission to investigate the mass killing in Tigray
Ethiopian Prime minister Abiy Ahmed launched a military campaign against the Tigray people’s Liberation Front (TPLF) last week. This happened after the government accuses the regional rulers of attacking a government military base in the neighboring state of Amhara. The domestic conflicts came after several smaller conflicts from the last few months.
Days after the announcement by the prime minister Abiy Ahmed of defeating local forces in Tigray, Ethiopia’s human right commission has said that it will send a team to investigate the reported mass killings of civilians in the region.
The conflict escalated when in September, Tigray held elections in insubordination of the Ethiopian federal government. Tigray is known to be wealthier than other parts of Ethiopia.
