Adobe, a multinational software company is to discontinue the update of computer software, adobe flash player, and block it from running from January 12, 2021.

Adobe Flash player is used for content created on adobe platforms. The functions of computer software include streaming audio and video, viewing multimedia content, and executing rich Internet applications.

Along with the announcement of the flash player blocking date the company also recommended the users to uninstall flash player before the end date.

Adobe can restrict the users from accessing anything from the flash player on their web by blocking it.

The company issued a note on the final flash player release which states that “Adobe will no longer support Flash Player after December 31, 2020, and Adobe will block Flash content from running in Flash Player beginning January 12, 2021; Adobe strongly recommends all users to immediately uninstall Flash Player to help protect their systems.”

Few Months before Microsoft announced that by the end of 2020 it will discontinue its support for adobe flash player on Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer. Along with Microsoft other popular web browsers like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox also announced their disconnection from Adobe Flash Player.

Adobe flash player was once a popular means to stream multimedia content on the web. Earlier enabling flash player was important to stream audios and videos but nowadays enabling and disabling flash player is not important to run multimedia content on the web.

Adobe being a reputed company had to take such measures of closing down the flash because of security reasons. Flash player could be used for streaming video, audio, or any other content but it has some security issues which led to its downfall.

Severe security issues and flaws made it hard for the flash to survive with the increasing competition and the presence of other substitutes HTML5 and JavaScript which are expanding in the market. The growing competition made it hard for the flash to survive in space.

Companies including some renowned names like Google and Microsoft had to fix some issues from their end to ensure security to their users.

The plan to completely abolish the flash player is not actually part of the latest update. As a part of the previous release, it is available for some time. It simply means even if you don’t install the new and final update of flash you will not be able to skip the end of the flash. However, the final update involves a disclaimer in modified language that prompts users to uninstall the flash before its end date.

Adobe has announced the blocking of flash in September only, it said that the users will no longer receive any security update remainders. By default, the flash player will be disabled and the versions older than the KB4561600 will be automatically blocked. The windows 10 update of Microsoft also removed the flash player by default.

In July 2017, adobe first announced its decision to retire the flash player. The company made the decision of flash retirement with the partnership of Apple, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Mozilla. It also prompts users to move towards newer software technologies and modern programming standards to ease migration.

To ease the method of uninstalling flash player for users adobe has issued a Flash Player EOL General Information page. The company also expressed its gratitude towards all the customers and developers who made flash a big success and loved software in the past.

“We are proud that Flash had a crucial role in evolving web content across animation, interactivity, audio, and video. We are excited to help lead the next era of digital experiences,” said the company.
