Restrictions on phone calls during flights to be maintained by US’FCC
US Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has denied the proposal to remove the ban on phone calls on flights. The proposal to allow-in flight calls faced strong opposition and US pilots and flight attendants said that on-flights issues could cause safety and security issues.
The proposal to remove the restrictions over phone calls over 10,000 feet were made by FCC in 2013. Congress members also strongly opposed the relaxations in the rules.
The proposal was made to adopt practices like Europe and other countries where phonecalls on flights are more common.
Restrictions were put in place to prevent any interference with the flight controls, navigation equipment, and radios.
