In the “Bridgerton” prequel series, India Amarteifio has been cast as a young Queen Charlotte
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the spinoff would focus on Queen Charlotte’s younger sister, who will be played by Amarteifio in the eight-episode series written by Bridgerton executive producer, Shonda Rhimes.
The show, which was picked up for a second season last year, will chronicle the narrative of how the young queen’s marriage to King George triggered a magnificent love story as well as a societal revolution that resulted in the world shown in the parent series.
Bridgerton’s second season premiere on March 25 smashed a Netflix English-language series record for viewing time on its opening weekend, and the spinoff’s casting came soon after.
Golda Rosheuvel, who plays Queen Charlotte Bridgerton, as well as Adjoa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury) and Ruth Gemmell, will return in the prequel (Lady Violet Bridgerton).
Charlotte, played by Amarteifio, is betrothed against her will to the King of England, and when she comes to London, she discovers the royal family isn’t what she thought. She develops into one of Europe’s most memorable rulers as she learns to negotiate the palace, the tonne, and her unpredictable husband.
Augusta will be played by Fairley, who will go to any length to ensure her son’s place as monarch in a changing, modernising England. Mylchreest plays King George, a young man who has always submitted to the crown’s limitations—until sharing his room and bed with his new bride compels him to confront his secret demons. Thomas will play the younger Agatha Danbury, who takes advantage of Charlotte’s arrival to break into society on her terms.
Clemmett will play the younger Brimsley, while Sachs will reprise his role as the adult Brimsley from Bridgerton. Lord Bute will be played by Cunningham, Adolphus will be played by Kasim, the royal doctor will be played by Maloney, and Lord Danbury, Agatha’s considerably older spouse, will be played by Nri.
The Queen Charlotte series is executive produced by Shondaland’s Betsy Beers and Rhimes. Tom Verica will direct and produce the film.
